The Birmingham VA Health Care System is recruiting for a full-time Physician Assistant for Neurology Sleep Service. The Physician Assistant contributes as part of the Neurology Sleep provider team in conjunction with the sleep physicians involved in daily operations of the Birmingham VA's Neurology Sleep Service.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include, but are not limited to: Independently provides initial and follow-up evaluation and management for patients with the full spectrum of sleep disorders via in-person and clinical video telemedicine (including consulting with sleep physicians for complex sleep questions as appropriate).
- →Serves as the point of contact for Neurology Sleep consult review/screening/triage.
- →Provides sleep medicine education and counseling to patients/sleep employees/other VA staff.
- →Provides clinical sleep medicine support to Neurology Sleep employees.
- →Assists in responding to sleep related patient phone calls/messages/and in-person walk-in visits.
- →Orders/reviews lab work related to sleep medicine evaluations as indicated.
- →Orders polysomnographic studies (Home and Sleep Laboratory studies) as indicated.
- →Prescribes and refills any medication listed on the VA hospital formulary except for Schedule II, III, IV, V Narcotics, chemotherapeutic agents and anesthetics per Birmingham VA guidelines.
- →Consults other non-Sleep services as indicated for the health of the patient.
- →Participates in Sleep quality improvement projects.
- →Mentors Sleep nursing staff.
- →Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- →Subject to change based on agency needs.
- →Telework: Available; Ad-hoc only after completing initial training.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
