About the Role

The Miami VA Healthcare System (Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center) Pharmacy Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Pharmacist- Controlled Substances/Outpatient -Supervisor. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. What You'll Do

  • The Pharmacist- Controlled Substances/Outpatient - Supervisor at the Miami VA Healthcare System, (Bruce W.
  • Carter VA Medical Center) is responsible for ensuring the safe, legal, and accurate handling of controlled substances while providing direct patient care.
  • Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Providing direct oversight and accountability for effective functioning of the inpatient and outpatient controlled substance vaults.
  • Assessing, planning and evaluating the controlled substance pharmacy program to ensure that all VA and DEA regulations are followed.
  • Formulating decisions in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating all operations related to controlled substances to maintain efficiency and safety.
  • Responsible for inventory control of all controlled substances in Pharmacy vaults to ensure total inventory count is conducted and supervised per VHA guidelines.
  • Completes required reporting for any identified discrepancies or loss of controlled substances in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains effective intra- and interdepartmental relations and collaborates with other sections and services to accomplish Pharmacy Service missions and goals.
  • Responsible for pharmaceutical care to optimize patient response and resource utilization.
  • Provides for first level supervision to pharmacists, technicians, trainees, and other staff assigned to outpatient pharmacy.
  • Develops performance plans and standards that are realistic, challenging, and relate whenever possible to VHA and Health System goals.
  • Supervising, orienting and training employees, residents, and students to ensure both an acceptable quality and quantity of work.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor.
  • The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
