About the Role
The Nursing Assistant serves as a member of the Community Living Center care team, providing personal care, diagnostic services, treatments, rehabilitation support, and documentation for Veterans in short-term rehabilitation or long-term care. Duties include assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, performing basic clinical procedures, and reporting changes in condition.
What You'll Do
- →Major Duties Assists Veterans with bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, dressing, ambulation, positioning, and other activities of daily living.
- →Obtains and documents vital signs, intake and output, weights, and changes in condition.
- →Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, postmortem care, and unit-specific nursing procedures.
- →Performs finger-stick blood glucose testing, bedside EKGs, Foley catheter care, and bowel care within established scope.
- →Assists with meals while following aspiration precautions and special dietary requirements.
- →Transfers and transports Veterans using wheelchairs, gurneys, and other assistive equipment.
- →Supports rehabilitation activities, including range-of-motion exercises and speech retraining.
- →Follows infection-control, safety, suicide-prevention, and close-observation procedures.
- →Recognizes urgent or abnormal conditions and promptly reports them to the appropriate nurse using SBAR.
- →Documents care accurately in the medical record.
- →Promotes each Veteran's dignity, independence, comfort, and overall well-being.
- →Works collaboratively with nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
- →At the GS-5 level, may assist with orienting and precepting newly assigned Nursing Assistants.

Requirements

- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
