About the Role

The Nursing Assistant in APU/PACU provides direct patient care and supports licensed staff by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patients, performing basic procedures, and documenting care. Additionally, this role transports patients safely, ensures proper hand-offs, and maintains patient safety throughout the transport process.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Nursing Assistant assists with activities of daily living and basic patient care needs, performs vital sign monitoring, collects and documents patient observations, and supports preventative measures such as skin breakdown prevention.
  • The NA collects laboratory specimens, performs EKGs and bladder scans, and adheres to infection control protocols.
  • Additional responsibilities include ensuring safe patient mobility, responding appropriately to emergent situations within the scope of practice (such as CPR), and communicating clearly with the health care team to ensure effective care transitions and warm hand-offs.
  • The NA safely transports patients between units, accompanies patients when indicated, and can transport discharged patients to their vehicles, ensuring continuous observation as needed and maintaining accountability and patient safety throughout the process.
  • The role also encompasses building therapeutic relationships with patients, contributing to patient care planning, and participating in ongoing training and competency assessments.
  • Pay Scale: V0F3 Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, compressed tour such as 6:00am-4:30pm or 7:00am to 5:30pm Compressed/Flexible: Available Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).
  • Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
