About the Role

This Nursing Assistant position is on the Long-Term Spinal Cord Injury Unit for the Nursing Service at the Boston VA Healthcare System located at the Brockton, MA campus. This position is full-time evenings, 40 hours per week.

What You'll Do

  • The purpose of this position is to serve as a Nursing Assistant in the fast-paced Nursing Operations Service at the Brockton, MA campus and assist licensed nursing staff, and other members of the care team in the care of the outpatient Veterans.
  • All duties performed will be provided under close supervision/ direction of a RN and the incumbent will refer issues/questions to supervisors or other healthcare professionals.
  • Depending on grade and assignment duties may include but are not limited to: Taking-recording-reporting vital signs accurately Assisting with total ADL care, treatments, including but not limited to bowel and bladder management, feeding patients, and repositioning.
  • Obtaining specimens, properly labeling and preparing specimens for transport for testing POC testing Cleaning/disinfecting rooms/medical equipment after patient use Performs other duties as assigned Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.

  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) NOTIFICATIONS: Narrative responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) may be required from the selectee in order to proceed with the appointment.
  • This position is in the Excepted Service.
