About the Role
The Greater Los Angeles VA Health Care System is seeking 1 experienced Nursing Assistant (NA) for a full-time Day Shift in Nursing Service, Community Living Center G-63, at the Sepulveda VA Medical Center in North Hills, CA. The NA provides preventive, acute, sub-acute, chronic, maintenance, and hospice care for Veterans with complex nursing needs as part of the nursing care team and supports peer education and mentorship.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides direct patient care ranging from routine to moderately specialized nursing assistance in inpatient care settings.
- →Responds promptly to patient call lights, bells, and other signals to identify and address patient needs.
- →Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, grooming, mobility, ambulation, and exercise.
- →Measures, records, and reports vital signs, weight, food and fluid intake, and urinary and fecal output as directed by nursing or medical staff.
- →Observes patients for changes in physical, behavioral, and psychosocial condition and promptly reports significant findings to the appropriate clinical staff.
- →Collects, handles, documents, and transports specimens and other laboratory or pharmacy items according to established procedures.
- →Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice, including EKGs, catheter care, colostomy care, enemas, skin care, simple dressings, and application of braces or prosthetic devices.
- →Assists nurses and providers with diagnostic examinations and treatments by preparing, positioning, and monitoring patients and obtaining required clinical information.
- →Uses clinical equipment, including glucose monitoring devices, patient lifts, and other assistive equipment, while following established safety and infection-control procedures.
- →Follows safe patient handling practices when transferring, lifting, turning, repositioning, and transporting patients with varying levels of mobility.
- →Accurately documents patient care, observations, interventions, and changes in health or biopsychosocial status in the patient's medical record using established charting procedures.
- →Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and communicates pertinent patient information to nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team.
- →Promotes patient autonomy, dignity, safety, and independence through respectful interactions, individualized care, and appropriate use of assistive devices.
- →Reinforces patient and family education regarding health care needs, mobility, body mechanics, procedures, postoperative care, and other treatment-related instructions.
