About the Role
You will serve as a NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Control Engineering Division (Code 2330), Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
What You'll Do
- →You will investigate routine reports of malfunction of varied equipment and components of nuclear propulsion systems.
- →You will advise on standard approaches, techniques and setups which have been selected by others.
- →You will develop process instructions and technical instructions for primary system reactor plant components.
- →You will initiate proposed changes to nuclear reactor plant control systems or operational procedures.
- →You will study and review all plans for the systems including modifications to insure compatibility.
- →You will exercise technical control, in the areas assigned him a project basis, of all types of electrical shipyard work related to the overhaul and refueling of naval nuclear propulsion plants.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
- ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
