About the Role
You will serve as a Nuclear Engineer in the Nuclear Quality Division, Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
What You'll Do
- →You will develop, plan and provide technical direction over complex operations involved in the exchange of nuclear fuel cells on a nuclear-powered vessel.
- →You will coordinate, monitor, review and integrate the efforts of engineers, consultants, health physicists, quality control inspectors and mechanics to develop and implement work sequences and procedures.
- →You will carry out continuing review of the engineering and production work to ensure that the requirements for propulsion plant and related work are met.
- →You will recommend design and process modifications to eliminate malfunctions or improve performance, including follow-up with testing or other monitoring to ensure satisfactory outcome You will serve as a consulting source for shop personnel performing repair or manufacturing work and discuss and resolve operational and maintenance problems with shipyard personnel.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
- ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
