Museum Technicians support collection care by maintaining storage and environmental systems, cleaning and inventorying objects, packing and labeling items for preservation, and assisting with the installation and upkeep of exhibits. What You'll Do
- →Major Duties: Implements museum maintenance and housekeeping schedules.
- →Assists in scheduled cleaning of museum collections storage, taking inventory of all stored items.
- →Implements museum environmental monitoring and integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
- →This includes gathering data, maintaining the monitoring equipment, and preparing permanent data records.
- →Packs and repacks objects with care, assuring complete labeling that preserves data associated with the objects.
- →Performs routine cleaning of objects as directed and according to established standards.
- →The types of artifacts/objects to be cleaned include but are not limited to historic books, furniture, textiles, ceramics, documents, and photographs.
- →Assists with the installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Males must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement.
- ✓Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓Occupancy of government quarters may be required.
- ✓Government housing may be available but is not guaranteed.
- ✓Use find a park to contact specific parks for more information on government housing.
- ✓You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and/or shift work.
- ✓You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
- ✓You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
- ✓Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
