The Medical Instrument Technician is a member of the Gastrointestinal/Pulmonary lab and provides assistance to the endoscopist and other team members during endoscopy and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The purpose of the work is to perform technical support in invasive endoscopic procedures, monitor and assess patients pre, intra and postoperatively. The Medical Instrument Technician participates with the GI Lab team members in planning and implementing complex procedures.
What You'll Do
- →Able to place Engineering Work order requests or contact Biomed for equipment issues and notifying GI nurse manager and charge nurse as issues arise.
- →Assists patients preparing to have a procedure performed, such as changing clothes, provide basic information regarding the procedure, attaching monitoring devices, oxygen, completing EKGs, starting and removing PIVs, performing phlebotomy, obtaining vital signs and so forth.
- →Turns procedure rooms over in an appropriate time-based procedure done.
- →Has an extensive knowledge of a wide variety of complex endoscopy procedures and possible complications.
- →Is able to anticipate and prepare for the needs of the endoscopy team.
- →Is able to report observations and immediate procedural needs to the endoscopist or R.N.
- →Has an in-depth technical knowledge concerning instrumentation, human anatomy, human physiology, infection control and has technical knowledge on use and effects of anesthesia/sedation.
- →The MIT will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position.
- →The MIT will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position.
- →The MIT will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position.
- →Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0730-1600 Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): No Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): No Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
- →When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
