About the Role

Medical Administration Specialist provides administrative authority, guidance, and decision making to Medical Officer and Nursing Officer of the Day, and other similarly named Nurse and Medical positions in charge after hours. Position is located in the Health Administration Service (HAS). The position has both the authority and responsibility to represent both the Medical Center Director and the HAS Chief on all administrative matters occurring outside of normal tour of duty as assigned.

What You'll Do

  • Include but not limited to: Authority and responsibility to represent both the Medical Center Director and the Chief, HAS on all administrative matters occurring when assigned outside normal tour of duty hours.
  • Provides full medical administrative support during other than normal tours of duty to clinical and administrative medical center staff.
  • Authorized as certifying officer for documents pertaining to the administration of laws concerning VA.
  • Coordinates the resolution of medical legal problems concerning the medical center.
  • Ensures that appropriate legal, regulatory, and policy requirements are met.
  • Processes administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death, seriously ill cases, elopements, suicides, assaults, deaths on arrival (DOAs), homicides, code blue, cost recovery matters, and facility or community disasters, etc.
  • Performs for administrative matters for clinical matters working as a team to carry out top management responsibilities.
  • Directly intervenes with problems regarding patient activity, directing and advising clinical staff of appropriate administrative action.
  • Participates in Health Care System (HCS) incident command planning committees and emergency management training drills.
  • Receives and responds to non-routine patient condition inquiries Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.

  • Physical Requirements: The work requires much walking through the medical center with occasionally the requirement to lift objects such as suitcases, clothing, or medical charts.
