About the Role

This vacancy announcement may be used to fill positions at various Department of the Navy Commands, including but not limited to the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.

What You'll Do

  • →You will execute in-house mechanical engineering design work products and services within specified milestones and quality standards.
  • →You will analyze / design extensive engineering alterations and modifications to existing facilities to meet the everchanging demands placed upon the shore establishments of the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands.
  • →You will lead multi-disciplinary in-house (IH) design teams, executing IH projects as well as overseeing design efforts accomplished via Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firms.
  • →You will coordinate the mechanical engineering design with the engineering disciplines for Design-Bid- Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects to ensure overall compatibility and efficiency of the site and building design.
  • →You will conduct technical management and oversight on execution of multi-disciplinary design projects whether accomplished by IH or A/E forces.
  • →You will plan / lead project design conferences/work sessions and on-site Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD) and/or charrettes with stakeholders to determine project requirements and to develop concept designs.
  • →You will provide post construction award services (PCAS), including review and approval of contractor's submittals for conformance with the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications.
  • →You will mentor and train new and junior mechanical engineers within the organization.

Requirements

  • ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • ✓Office of Personnel Management.

  • ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
