About the Role

As an AST, Mechanical Experimental Equipment engineer, you will be responsible for mechanical systems maintenance (vessels, piping, valve, control valves, regulators, etc.) of the rocket test facilities at Stennis Space Center. In addition, you will participate in the design, construction and test operations for new and existing NASA and commercial test programs in the test complex.

What You'll Do

  • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised.
  • Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Assists senior engineers in managing, coordinating, and supporting the design, activation, and test of electrical and mechanical systems and related components in areas such as rocket propulsion and power.
  • Develops procedures for the facility build-up, activation, operations, and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems as applicable in support of propulsion testing. n and organize work.
  • Identifies and investigates standard problems in electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Works with senior engineers in providing engineering solutions and technical consultation to civil servants and support contractors in the resolution and correction of field problems and monitors corrective actions through completion.
  • Monitors contractor activities to ensure written procedures and policies are followed.
  • With senior engineer oversight, operate mechanical facility systems in support of rocket engine testing on NASA’s primer test stands.
  • Writes procedures for maintenance of mechanical systems to keep these test systems safe and operational.
  • Participates in the design process through attendance of project reviews.
  • Review plans, specifications and cost estimates for technical adequacy.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations on complex subject matter.

Requirements

  • If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
  • Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
