The Mechanical Engineer position is part of the Division of Agricultural Select Agents and Toxins (DASAT) and conducts advanced mechanical engineering analysis and synthesis of systems used in regulated laboratories to advance the understanding of the relationships between workplace exposures/hazards found.
What You'll Do
- →The duties described are for the full-performance level.
- →At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
- →The duties may include, but are not limited to: Develop methods and technologies to reduce the risk associated with workplace exposure and hazards.
- →Reviews application of numerical methods and computational fluid dynamic modeling to design and evaluate the effect of engineering controls on worker exposure to airborne contaminants.
- →Reviews design of engineering control studies to reduce or prevent worker exposure to harmful contaminants.
- →Serve as subject matter expert on containment by understanding laboratories engineering controls.
- →On-site inspections are performed to ensure compliance, and that safety standards are met and disseminates safety standards to all staff.
- →Maintains awareness on the latest developments in mechanical engineering.
- →Prepares and distributes comprehensive reports which include discussion of containment objectives; assessment of the adequacy and quality of data used in the analyses.
- →Presents results to the scientific community at professional meetings and conferences.
- →Provides subject matter expertise related to program management and direction, history, or regulations as requested by the DASAT Director or delegate.
