At the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center, Licensed Practical Nurses play a vital role in delivering patient-centered care that supports the health, dignity, and safety of Veterans. What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional As an Outpatient Primary Care Licensed Practical Nurses, you will be an essential member of the Patient Aligned Care Team, providing structured screenings, assisting with procedures, administering medications, and supporting preventive care.
  • This role offers the opportunity to strengthen clinical operations, promote continuity of care, guide Veterans through their appointments, and collaborate closely with Registered Nurses and providers to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality care.
  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides technically proficient, patient-centered care by confirming visit reasons, conducting pre-visit outreach, and preparing Veterans for appointments.
  • Performs pre-visit planning, reviews records, gathers missing documentation, and updates clinical information to support efficient care.
  • Rooms patients, collects vital data, completes clinical reminders, assists with procedures, and maintains clean, stocked exam rooms.
  • Reviews medications and allergies, identifies urgent needs, initiates approved nursing protocols, and communicates key findings to the Registered Nurse or provider.
  • Supports team operations through daily huddles, PACT meetings, health coaching, patient education, and management of secure messages.
  • Tracks consults, reviews schedules, identifies appropriate care modalities, and assists with follow-up on no-show patients.
  • Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatments, observes patients for changes, and reports deviations to the Registered Nurse or provider.
  • Recognizes and responds to urgent or emergent situations and initiates emergency interventions as directed.
  • Performs support duties for complex diagnostic tests and specialized procedures, including patient preparation, equipment handling, and condition monitoring.
  • Serves as a preceptor for less experienced Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Health Technicians, providing education and guidance.
  • Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday, Occasional Saturdays.
  • Work is scheduled between 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Training provided.
