About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • The LPN/LVN functions in their assigned duty area at VAWNYHS in inpatient and outpatient care areas including Acute Care, Long Term Care, Behavioral Health, Primary Care and other ambulatory Care settings.
  • Duties include but are not limited to the following: Accurately follows established policies and procedures when performing and/or assisting in all aspects of nursing care to meet patients needs under the direction of a RN or Medical Provider.
  • Completes routine daily assignments in a timely manner and obtains appropriate supplies and equipment for patient care delivery.
  • Assists with simple diagnostic measures, including collection of urine and stool specimens, and collecting and/or testing any other specimens as instructed.
  • Assists with appropriate actions in emergency situations.
  • Recognizes and reports all pertinent information regarding patients' condition and the environment to the registered nurse in a timely manner.
  • Legibly and accurately documents all pertinent information which reflects current patient status on the appropriate flow sheets, and in the electronic health record.
  • Uses proper body mechanics and lifting and protective devices to prevent injury to self or patients.
  • Uses proper protective equipment as required.
  • Participates in the unit's performance improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.
