About the Role
The National Library of Medicine seeks a Senior Metadata Librarian to develop, implement, and optimize metadata standards supporting biomedical, scientific, and digital collections. This role advances discovery, access, interoperability, and data quality across NLM resources. The successful candidate will provide leadership, collaborate with technical and subject matter experts, and promote metadata best practices. Experience with standards such as BIBFRAME, RDF, Dublin Core, and MARC desired.
What You'll Do
- →Serve as a technical authority in a specialization, either a broad functional area such as cataloging criteria or preservation of rare materials, or in a narrower but very complex subject area related to biomedical research.
- →Develop policies, programs, services and/or products for a library system.
- →Develop authoritative new approaches and methods to resolve highly unusual information problems.
- →Perform highly specialized and/or authoritative cataloging.
- →Serve as an expert in reference and information research.
- →Work with researchers in advanced fields, using a variety of databases including full-text data bases, technical reports, legislative histories, specialized journal articles and/or historical materials to interpret and evaluate information.
- →Initiate and carry out special projects and assignments related to locating, cataloging classifying, and selecting, controlling or preserving and accessing particularly critical or obscure information through standard/automated systems.
- →Lead and participate in special task groups on cooperative efforts within/outside of the library to develop operating standards and to ensure that library practices adhere to appropriate national/international standards.
