About the Role

This position is the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, within the Engineering Service, Office of the Assistant Chief, Planning and Construction, Architect Planning/Design Unit in Cleveland, OH. In this position you will be responsible for medical center interior design projects at all locations, Wade Park and Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

What You'll Do

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Plans and implements interior design projects for healthcare facilities, including new construction, renovation, and space improvement initiatives.
  • Develops interior design solutions, floor plans, finish schedules, and furniture layouts to support patient care and operational needs.
  • Reviews construction drawings, including lighting plans, architectural and engineering design submittals for compliance with VA standards, codes, and facility design criteria.
  • Prepares design specifications, cost estimates, and procurement documentation for furnishings, finishes, and interior construction elements.
  • Manages furniture and furnishings programs, including planning, acquisition, installation, and replacement activities.
  • Monitors project schedules, prepare and maintains budgets, and resource requirements to ensure timely completion of interior design projects.
  • Evaluates and selects furniture, finishes, materials, and equipment to ensure compliance with healthcare, safety, accessibility, and infection control requirements.
  • Have knowledge of AUTOCAD architectural software.
  • Develop block allocations of assigned space and prepare plans showing details layouts of furniture and partitions for entire project using Project Layout CAD software.
  • Conducts site inspections and evaluates contractor performance to verify compliance with design specifications and project requirements.
  • Utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) and drafting software to maintain project records, drawings, specifications, Develops cost estimates for design budget, and design documentation to support program management and project execution.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office and requires normal safety precautions, particularly while at construction areas.
