What You'll Do
- →You will provide thorough assessment, counseling, and consultation services to clients who present for care with substance use risk factors and/or disorders.
- →You will interview individuals and family members to analyze factors affecting personality development and family dynamics related to symptomatic behaviors and complex interpersonal issues.
- →You will independently develop treatment plans and provide direct care using a variety of techniques to address personal, social, or environmental challenges related to substance use disorders.
- →You will perform administrative duties in support of provided services.
- →You will stay current in clinical supervision and related areas through continuing education, training, and professional literature.
Requirements
- ✓In addition to meeting the specialized experience, you will also be required to meet the following the individual occupational requirement(s) (IOR).
- ✓Psychology series 0180: Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology.
- ✓These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below: Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
- ✓Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required.
- ✓Social Work series 0185: Degree: social work.
- ✓Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
- ✓Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.
- ✓In addition to meeting the IORs, you can qualify with the following educational requirement in lieu of specialized experience:3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
