About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS-0201-12, Human Resources Specialist (Info Sys) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Office of Civilian Strategic Planning and Applications in Washington, District of Columbia.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as a Human Resources Specialist (Info Sys) and be responsible for managing and providing subject matter expertise on a help desk that is available to all USCG employees for its human resources information systems (HRIS) such as eOPF, GovTA, USA Staffing, FedHR, EmpowHR, and NFC.
  • Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
  • Typical work assignments include: Managing the USCG Civilian HR Systems Help Desk as the primary customer-facing support function for HR system users, including intake, triage, escalation, resolution tracking, customer communication, and coordination with functional and technical teams to ensure timely support and continuity of HR operations.
  • Administering and supporting USCG civilian HR systems, including FedHR, NFC systems, GovTA, and related HR platforms, by monitoring system access, troubleshooting user issues, coordinating system updates, supporting data integrity, and ensuring users receive accurate and timely assistance.
  • Triaging and managing USAS-related tickets, inquiries, and system issues, including reviewing requests, determining the appropriate resolution path, coordinating with internal stakeholders, escalating complex issues, and tracking actions through completion.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to operational staff, HR specialists, managers, and system users regarding the use of HR automation tools, software systems, access requirements, system limitations, and solutions to recurring or complex HR systems issues.
  • Developing, maintaining, and improving internal tracking tools, standard operating procedures, knowledge articles, and reporting mechanisms for HR systems support, audit responses, help desk performance, recurring issues, and customer service metrics.
  • Managing and coordinating internal and external Financial/IT audit requests for Civilian Personnel systems, including tracking requests, gathering required documentation, coordinating responses with stakeholders, and ensuring audit deliverables are completed accurately and timely.
