About the Role
The Facility Systems Engineer will serve in the Subsonic, Transonic, Supersonic, or Hypersonic Testing Branch providing engineering leadership to sustain/enhance the operational capability of the branches facilities and systems. The position is responsible for developing/implementing modifications to enhance the operating performance, reliability, maintainability, efficiency and capability of Subsonic, Transonic, Supersonic, or Hypersonic Testing Branch facilities.
What You'll Do
- →Serves as lead engineer developing or modifying concepts that support or improve wind tunnel systems to enhance maintainability, reliability, efficiency, or operational capabilities of Subsonic, Transonic, Supersonic, and Hypersonic Test facilities.
- →Collaborates with others to achieve solutions to complex technical issues spanning multiple disciplines including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogenic, and heavy gas.
- →Identifies wind tunnel system and subsystem problems through troubleshooting, testing, and readiness methodologies.
- →Initiates contact, provides expert technical advice and direction, serves as liaison to facility managers and contractors, and monitors all aspects of contracted activities within purview.
- →Leads conceptual definition studies and analyses for a variety of advanced systems or proposed projects for which no precedent may exist.
- →Integrates results into comprehensive technical briefings, reports, and technical papers.
- →Performs systems engineering including defining, developing, integrating, and verifying end-to-end requirements for new or existing systems, with the objective of optimizing performance, safety, and project objectives.
- →Performs project management and design work oversight.
- →Serves as an authoritative advisor to manufacturers, engineers, contractor personnel, industry organizations, agency management, and non-NASA government officials, in matters regarding system/equipment testing, evaluation, and proprietary projects.
Requirements
- ✓If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
- ✓Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
- ✓Engineering degrees earned within the United States: Engineering degrees earned within the United States must be from a college or university that has at least one ABET accredited engineering program.
