What You'll Do

  • The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.
  • If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Assists the executive in setting business unit strategy and goals that enhance compliance with laws and policy aligned with the overall organizational strategy.
  • Plans, performs, and/or coordinates the most significant types of managerial assignments, encompassing all program and functional areas of the executive.
  • Prescribes and influences courses of action affecting the adoption of service wide policy.
  • Negotiates policy matters with both internal and external organizations and assures understanding and consideration of the executive's views.
  • Assists in the allocation of resources among the program office; establishes performance measures and goals and manages the execution of program goals; ensures goals, strategy, and policies are clearly communicated to employees to achieve the desired results.
  • Analyzes proposals directed to the executive for review, approval, or decision and develops recommendations for consideration and action.
  • Coordinates the recommendations of and/or solutions to major projects or problems arising from operating policies, programs, workloads, objectives, etc. and coordinates with managers and program officials from other divisions.
  • Implements the executive's administrative and managerial decisions and assures accomplishment of the desired goals and objectives.
  • Functions as a senior level liaison with external organizations and stakeholders to represent the view of the executive and interests of the IRS.
  • Presents the executives' viewpoints to external groups and promotes closer relationships between the Agency and appropriate outside organizations in areas of mutual benefit.
  • Actively participates in conferences, meetings, or presentations involving problems or issues of considerable importance.
  • Represents or negotiates on behalf of the executive with experts in working groups across government and with partners and stakeholders (state, tribal and local governments, external organizations, and others).

Requirements

  • Probationary Period - A person who is required to go through a probationary period and then is transferred, promoted, demoted, or reassigned before he or she completes such period is required to complete the remainder of the probationary period in the new position.
  • Government Credit Card - Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS SHOWN IN QUALIFICATIONS SECTION A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S.
  • Department of Education.

  • FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
  • You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
