About the Role

The incumbent is a working supervisor who works jointly with the other Environmental Service Tech Supervisors to oversee all aspects of Environmental Management Service (EMS) to include all textile care processing. The primary objectives of the position are to ensure that the Medical Center meets or exceeds all Environment of Care standards for cleanliness and for the administration of the linen control program.

What You'll Do

  • The incumbent supervises a full range of cleaning duties which are assigned to the Environmental Services personnel and is responsible for ensuring that the sanitation requirements are met for the areas assigned through the medical center, including a full range of sanitation and waste removal functions.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: Assigning staff for duties on a daily and project-by-project basis.
  • Coordinating work with supervisors of other services within the assigned area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities.
  • Cleaning all patient areas and corridor spaces throughout the medical center, operating rooms, and all other areas assigned.
  • Ensuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules.
  • Planning and scheduling daily and weekly assignments, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities.
  • Training staff to ensure the use of patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members, and personnel.
  • Providing on-the job training for subordinates and new employees as individual needs dictate.
  • Keeping subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies.
  • Controlling the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit.
  • Conducting in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback regarding their observations.
  • Ensuring all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues.
  • Supervising the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and people and ensures record keeping is timely and accurate.
  • Approving leave requests for subordinates, counseling employees, and recommending disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
