About the Role
This is a training opportunity to gain the competencies necessary to perform Interdisciplinary Engineering duties. If selected, you will be placed on a Detail Not To Exceed 1 Year. Eligibility for this training opportunity is limited to current GS-0802-11 and GS-0802-12, Engineering Technicians in UIC 42158 of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD Please Note: There will be no change in your salary during the timeframe of this training opportunity.
What You'll Do
- →You will perform assigned portions of a major overhaul project under the cognizance of a senior graded Mechanical Engineer.
- →You will coordinate one or more of the various Engineering processes applying a wide range of engineering theories, concepts, principles, standards, and methods.
- →You will review engineering and production work to ensure that all requirements and safety concerns are met.
- →You will coordinate, monitor, review, and integrate the efforts of engineers, consultants, quality control inspectors, mechanics and others who develop and implement work sequences and procedures.
- →You will be required to conduct an engineering capstone research and design project or similar professional engineering work as designated by the Supervisor and endorsed by the Chief Engineer (Code 240).
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
- ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
- ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

- ✓OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
