About the Role

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Engineer, Construction Division, Construction Branch. We are seeking a temporary journey-level electrician to perform electrical functions including maintenance, repair, installation and inspection of electrical service in the Capitol Complex historic buildings. We have five vacancies to fill. The position requires work experience at the Journey Level and must be reflected in the applicant's resume.

What You'll Do

  • Night Shift: 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM (Monday through Thursday) Day Shift: 4:00 AM to 2:30 PM (Monday through Thursday (Hours may change due to Operational Needs of Management) THIS POSITION IS ESSENTIAL--EMPLOYEE IS REQUIRED TO REPORT TO WORK DURING EMERGENCIES AND INCLEMENT WEATHER SITUATIONS.
  • WORK SCHEDULE MAY INCLUDE HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS ON A REGULAR AND RECURRING BASIS.
  • The position requires Journey Level Experience and the experience must be reflected in the applicant's work history and resume.
  • Repairs equipment without the original schematics or drawings.
  • The electrician either must research the schematic via the internet or manufacturer, or in some cases improvise and repair the equipment without schematics or drawings.
  • Follows established safety practices of the trade.
  • Electrical Installation and Troubleshooting Installs, assembles, troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and maintains routine and standard electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical devices containing electronic components in order to isolate the cause of the malfunction of electrical control systems, analog/digital controls, and solid state motor control circuits in equipment.
  • Independently works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Determines location of existing electrical devices and service entrances and places new ones.
  • Locates ground faults in complex electronic/electrical networks.
  • Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems.
  • Provides technical guidance to Workers and Helpers during cable pulling, tagging, and securing as well as cutting, bending, and mounting electrical conduit.
