About the Role

You will provide ionizing-radiation analysis for avionics and support flight and development projects as the focal engineer for IR (Ionizing Radiation) effects on EEE (Electrical, Electronic, Electromechanical) parts. You will design, implement, and analyze radiation tests, develop IR environments and requirements, prepare IR control plans, and work with designers to select tolerant parts. You will participate in all design reviews and verification activities.

What You'll Do

  • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised.
  • Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Develop radiation environments, top-level IR (Ionizing Radiation) requirements, and Radiation Control Plans, coordinate with Chief Engineer, Mission Safety, and Natural Environments, and support pre-Phase A/A radiation-risk evaluations.
  • Plan, conduct, and interpret radiation tests and perform limited testing for smaller projects to reduce radiation risk.
  • Research radiation test facility capabilities and support radiation-effects research tasks.
  • Review and comment on radiation requirements in military specs, SMDs (Surface Mount Devices), JEDEC standards, and radiation test standards and assess industry, DLA (Defense Logistics Agency), and NESC documents relevant to radiation.
  • Support radiation assurance for agency working groups, review EEE parts lists, testing, screening, and analyses, identify tolerant parts, and provide system-level radiation analysis and verification evidence to close requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal, project, government, and scientific audiences and educate NASA personnel on radiation impacts to electronic system design and promote best practices across projects.
