About the Role
Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (CVAHCS) is a Level 3 facility with service-lines serving medical, mental health, surgical, and neurological outpatients, with a Level 3 Emergency Department, and multiple Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical co-morbidities. Home-Based Primary Care is provided in the veteran's home.
What You'll Do
- →Domiciliary Mental Health (MH) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to patients.
- →They will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization.
- →The domiciliary RN provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or MH conditions.
- →They facilitate shift report, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups; use therapeutic communication techniques, practice de-escalation techniques, utilize recovery-oriented language, and provide oversight of the patient safe medication management program.
- →The domiciliary RN actively participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, patient safety and environment of care rounds, and responds to psychiatric and medical care needs and emergencies as directed.
- →The domiciliary RN reports safety concerns, and documents nursing assessments, risk screens, nursing plan of care, patient safety rounds, and environment of care rounds according to facility policy.
- →The domiciliary RN maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.
- →The domiciliary RN demonstrates competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills.
- →Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
