The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Intermountain Region, Rocky Mountain National Park, Division of Resource Stewardship. What You'll Do
- →The major duties of the Biological Science Technician position include, but are not limited to, the following: Collaborates with a variety of workgroups in different disciplines to minimize and respond to wildlife-human conflicts.
- →Administers proper drug dosages to captured animals, collects biological samples, records animal condition, body measurements, affixes ear-tags and/or radio-collars, and monitors recovery.
- →Maintains scientific databases by collecting, entering, and analyzing data, and prepare reports of project activities.
- →Organizes, conducts, trains, and leads others in field surveys in remote locations to document and assess animal presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues, and population dynamics using established protocols and standard scientific equipment.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- ✓Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required.
- ✓Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service); with few exceptions as outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
- ✓Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal civilian employees applying for reinstatement who have had a break in service of less than one year, as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments.
- ✓Time-in-grade does not apply to new excepted service appointments.
- ✓Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- ✓This position is subject to drug testing based on the collateral duty requiring firearms in the back-country or other locations for non-law enforcement reasons such as protection from animals.
- ✓You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- ✓You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
