About the Role
The Assistant General Counsel position is in the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO), Office of the General Counsel (OGC). OGC provides legal advice and services to the Director and AO staff, judges, senior court officials, and the Judicial Conference and its committees. OGC renders legal opinions and provides advice on a wide range of issues in federal judicial administration.
What You'll Do

- →Courts (AO), Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a self-motivated and experienced Assistant General Counsel to join its team.
- →The Assistant General Counsel provides legal advice on federal judiciary fiscal operations and judicial and court administration, including providing analysis and legal advice on laws and regulations governing the judiciary's operations related to payments, collections, reimbursements and investments.
- →This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel.
- →The incumbent must have excellent legal research and analytical skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly.
- →The incumbent must effectively identify and resolve problems; plan, organize, and work under demanding circumstances and time constraints; and communicate with AO management, judges, senior court personnel, and executive and legislative branch employees.
- →Responding to inquiries from judges, court executives, AO financial office personnel, and other judiciary officials on court and judicial administration regulatory and legal issues, including proper expenditure of funds for judiciary programs.
- →Reviewing and authoring pertinent sections in the Guide to Judiciary Policy and the AO Manual.
- →Analyzing and advising on proposed legislation, regulations, policies, and similar material related to fiscal law and diverse issues of court and judicial administration.
- →Advising on audits and compliance issues; fraud, waste, and abuse; and Government Accountability Office audits.

- ✓Failure to successfully complete the trial period may result in termination of employment.
- ✓If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
