You will serve as a ARCHITECT in the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) within the Planning, Design and Construction Directorate (PDC) of NAVAL FAC ENGR CMD EUROPE SW ASIA, Capodichino, Italy.
What You'll Do
- →You will be directly responsible for executing in-house architectural design work products and services within specified milestones and quality standards.
- →You will analyze and design extensive architectural alterations and modifications to existing facilities to meet the ever-changing demands placed upon the shore establishments of the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands.
- →You will lead multi-disciplinary in-house (IH) design teams, executing IH projects as well as overseeing design efforts accomplished via Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firms.
- →You will coordinate the architectural design with the engineering disciplines for Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects to ensure overall compatibility and efficiency of the site and building design.
- →You will participate in on-site Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD) and/or charrette to determine functional requirements and develop concept design for large, complex projects.
- →You will conduct site investigation field trips to project sites, as required, to collect all pertinent data and refine or develop project scope by inspection of existing conditions and through meetings with the sponsoring and using activities.
- →You will investigate or evaluates architectural issues and concerns in existing facilities, and develop reports that include recommendations and options for remediation or corrective measures, as applicable.
- →You will ensure quality control (QC) is maintained in the execution of IH design, while quality assurance (QA) is provided during the execution of A/E designs.
- →You will plan and lead project design conferences/work sessions and on-site Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD) and/or charrettes with stakeholders to determine project requirements and to develop concept designs.
- →You will identify areas of risk associated with advanced planning, design and construction and develop mitigation strategies or alternatives.
- →You will prepare correspondence, reports, and economic analyses.
- →Prepares written and oral presentations regarding architectural-related topics.
- →You will assist with construction quality assurance by performing code required special inspections or required architectural observation.
Requirements
- ✓Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: A.
- ✓I have a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture.
- ✓I have a bachelor's or higher degree in a field related to architecture that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
- ✓I have a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings.
- ✓(Note - In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required).
- ✓ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Travel is dependent upon position description and availability of funding.
- ✓You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

- ✓The NATO Status of Forces Agreement prohibits employment in the U.S.
- ✓Civilian Component in a host nation of any person who holds dual citizenship of the U.S. and the host nation.

- ✓Civilian Component in Italy; however, that person is not prohibited by the NATO Status of Forces Agreement from employment in the U.S. civilian Component in another NATO host nation of which (s)he does not hold citizenship.
- ✓ICTAP Applicants: To be considered well-qualified and exercise selection priority as an ICTAP candidate, displaced Federal employees must satisfy all qualification requirements for the position and receive a rating in the highly qualified category (score 85) or higher.
- ✓ICTAP candidates must provide copies of all of the following documentation at the time of application: 1) agency notice; 2) most recent performance appraisal; and 3) most recent SF-50 or notification of personnel action that includes position, grade level, and duty location.
