About the Role

Architecture & Electrical Engineering Section consists of licensed professional Electrical Engineers and Architects providing a vast array of services such as surveying, engineering reports, cost estimates, interior design, etc., to our customers at the William J. Hughes Technical Center.

What You'll Do

  • Serves as an Architect in the Architecture and Electrical Engineering Section responsible for the planning, design, and construction of new and/or extension, conversion, or modernization of existing buildings or facilities.
  • Assignments involve (a) performance of office and field architectural duties associated with architectural/engineering review, in-house design, and/or monitoring and managing construction projects; (b) investigation and evaluation of buildings or project sites with diverse functions to establish criteria and requirements for design and (c) interior and workstation design and installation.
  • Applies the latest design and construction techniques to such structures as office buildings, R&D facilities, laboratories, warehouses, historical buildings, and other Technical Center facilities.
  • Performs professional review, assessment, and guidance through the comparative analyses of design development documents, including the resolution of complex design problems, as well as the preparation of appropriate documents for the Technical Center, client agencies, and contract A/E firms.
  • Conducts, or directs the conduct of, investigations of project site to determine (for new construction) feasibility of proposed project; topography; and essential site configuration; or (for additions or renovations) condition of structure and essential data prior to initiating design.
  • Evaluates data obtained, incorporating relevant features into design consideration and solutions.
  • Meets with customer organizations to ensure that designs meet program requirements and adhere to Technical Center policy.
  • Prepares detailed fee estimates used for negotiating with architect-engineering (A/E) firms and office furniture vendors for design services, as well as all pertinent correspondence, plans, reports, and A/E contract criteria necessary for project completion.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and determines adequacy of shop drawings, samples, certificates of compliance, laboratory analyses, certifications, and other submittals and data from contractors covered by FAA contracts.
  • Determines compliance or non-compliance for such submittals.
  • Meets with contractors, manufacturers' representatives, and Government agency representatives to establish materials and test requirements.
  • Reviews contractors' reports to determine adequacy of design.
  • Assists in administering A/E and other vendor contracts.
  • Evaluates technical data pertaining to materials, equipment, shop drawings, proposals for modifications and additions, and methods of installation submitted by contractors.
