About the Role

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division; Carpentry Branch.

What You'll Do

  • Tour of Duty: 4:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Monday - Friday This is a career ladder position requiring the selectee to perform progressively more complex duties and responsibilities leading to the full performance level.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Make and repair high grade wooden items such as cabinetry, furniture and decorative woodwork.
  • Select, cut, turn, shape, join, bond, fit, assemble and decorate wooden materials and parts using a variety of hand and power woodworking tools, machines and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable wood work which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure and size tolerances.
  • Use a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods to plan and lay out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes for projects.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including lubricating machines, changing and sharpening saw blades and adjusting drive belt tensions.
  • Utilize specialized maintenance management software (TMA or other) to manage, update and close out work orders.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
