What You'll Do

  • As a Wildland Firefighter (Crew Coordinator) your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Serves as an expert representative on coordinating groups and recommends resource allocations to meet incident requests and Bureau requirements.
  • Serve as a senior technical authority for wildland fire and aviation management, responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating Bureau-wide and interagency fire management programs.
  • Advises leadership and senior staff on fire management policy and implementation strategies to achieve long term land management objectives.
  • Assesses constantly changing hazards and environmental conditions of high safety risk jobs and widespread geographic dispersion of operations.
  • Collaborates closely with interagency and intra-agency cooperators to develop, refine, and present mutually agreed-upon wildland fire and aviation management policy and standards.
  • Develops long-range strategic plans, and provides leadership, guidance, and coordination to ensure efficient and effective implementation.

Requirements

  • Citizen or National.
  • Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.

  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of their official duties.
  • Selectee must hold and maintain a valid state driver's license throughout their employment in this position.
  • A condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 25% of the time, particularly during fire season, and you must obtain a government charge card for travel.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
