The Voluntary Services Officer is responsible for supervising and managing the coordination of the day-to-day activities of the Center for Development & Civic Engagement/Voluntary Service and assisting with various support activities for the Public Affairs and Community Outreach Programs throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System.
What You'll Do
- →Duties to include but not limited to: Plans and performs evaluations for all subordinate staff, making changes in activities and program emphasis as found indicated by the evaluation.
- →Provides guidance and supervision to the Voluntary Service Specialists and Program Specialists at three medical centers.
- →Supervises and manages the recruitment, screening, selection, assignment, and if necessary, dismissal of volunteers.
- →Responsible for managing, coordinating, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness on the health care system's Center for Development & Civic Engagement Program.
- →Responsible for managing and supervising the following specialized programs for the health care system: Escort Program at the Baltimore VAMC; Compassionate Contact Corps; Fisher House Program at the Perry Point VAMC; The Shadowing and Observation Experiences by Students Program (mandated by the Johnny Isakson and David p.
- →Health Care and Benefits Act of 2020); The Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN) at the Baltimore, Loch Raven and Perry Point VAMC's and the Glen Burnie VA Outpatient Clinic The new State Veterans Home at the Perry point VA Medical Center.
- →Responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating a CDCE program that meets the needs of the health care system and involves utilization of community resources.
- →Coordinates the agenda, VAMHCS management participation, and leadership presentations for the quarterly VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) Committee meetings.
- →Ensures compliance with all applicable Joint Commission standards for VHA volunteers, to include maintaining the official volunteer personnel files. mandated training records, assignment guides, competency and performance assessments, and other applicable role-specific documentation.
- →Responsible for accurately maintaining and documenting all donations in the VA's enterprise-wide system of record for contributions to the agency and complying with national, VISN and local audits as requested.
- →Responsible for the full scope of fiscal management and accountability for the office, including the preparation of an annual operating budget.
- →Responsible for the planning. design and development of each volunteer role and the work to be accomplished, often requiring customization to accommodate a specific population or special needs of a volunteer.
- →Responsible for the education and training of all VHA, VBA, NCA and other authorized VA program staff on the effective use of volunteers, donations, and the management of strategic partnerships to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and regulatory parameters that govern such activities.
- →Develops short and long-term strategic and operational planning, to successfully support the established values, mission, and general objectives of the organization.
