About the Role

This position serves as a vital part of the VA Police Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran orvisitor encounters when entering a VA facility. The incumbent provides security and assistance to Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities daily.

What You'll Do

  • Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Ensuring compliance with law enforcement policies designed to ensure the preservation of the public peace, the protection of life and property, and the prevention of crime.
  • Reviews of all law enforcement and security directives and manuals to ensure the information contained there is accurate and up to date.
  • Conducts assessments of policy compliance to identify program weaknesses and areas requiring improvements and recommends changes to management.
  • Advises the local Chief of Police on policy and compliance issues related to law enforcement and security programs Provides guidance on interpretation and implementation of new and revised policies, regulations and procedures pertaining to law enforcement.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of law enforcement activities compliant to applicable agency law enforcement operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Assures compliance of police operations with appropriate requirements and develops strategies for improving police functions Participates in work groups, committees and task forces in the research, collection and reporting of compliance data.
  • Analyzes data to detect unsatisfactory trends or weaknesses in the law enforcement and security program.
  • Develops trend reports as they relate to data analyzed and develops recommendations for implementation Plans, designs and implements an overall risk management process for the organization, including analysis of the financial impact when risks occur.
  • Adapts existing analytical methods and techniques to specific issues and develops new approaches to resolve complex productivity problems and issues.
  • Providing recommendations in the development, and periodic updating of local law enforcement and security policy.
  • Serves as the local facility lead for the development of law enforcement and security policy.
  • Participates in short- and long-range strategic planning designed to incorporate improvements and lessons learned into program operations Develops and revised implementing procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of police operations.
  • Serves as the local liaison with other agencies conducting audits of law enforcement and security programs.
  • Manages all audit findings by monitoring corrective actions, reviewing recommendations for corrective actions, and ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
