About the Role

This position is under the supervision of the Grounds and Transportation Supervisor, Facilities Management Service located at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

What You'll Do

  • Validates transportation-related billing and reimbursements by reviewing them for completeness and accuracy according to standard instructions.
  • Submits monthly, quarterly, and annual cost and estimated cost reports on vehicles.
  • Reviews monthly mileage reports, tracking actual mileage usage of the transportation motor pool fleet.
  • Determines when to dispose of used vehicles and equipment, and directs preparation of vehicles for turn-in.
  • Responsible for major and nonstandard vehicle modifications and all vehicle accident repairs and/or recommendations for uneconomical repair determinations.
  • Records and monitors information related to vehicle modifications, vehicle accident repairs and maintenance, and reports unusual cases to supervisors for further determination.
  • Ensures that proper maintenance records are kept on all vehicles and pieces of equipment assigned.
  • Orders new replacement equipment.
  • Provides routine support in documenting efforts related to cost reduction, energy reduction and productivity improvement and enters collected data for management review.
  • Operates the vehicle dispatch program by determining the number of permanently assigned vehicles necessary to provide the most cost-effective method of travel, selecting the type of vehicles needed, and managing a maintenance program by keeping the optimum number of vehicles available for use during peak periods of travel.
  • Acts as designated agent for receiving, transferring, and accounting for vehicles and related property.
  • Maintains cost efficient operations, ensuring maximum vehicle utilization and quality of service.
  • Coordinates work with servicing vendors for routine maintenance or repair appointments and assist with transporting vehicles to vendor locations.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is primarily sedentary but includes walking, standing, bending, and lifting items such as supplies and vehicle parts.
  • The incumbent must be able to drive motor vehicles and travel to inspect maintenance work, investigate accidents, and visit fleet users at offsite locations.
