The Telephone Operator receives, interprets and directs a high volume of routine and priority telephone calls and responds to general inquiries from Veterans, families, visitors, community providers and health care system clinical and administrative staff.
What You'll Do
- →The Telephone Operator operates a computerized telephone system that has a 1400 line capacity.
- →They handle in-coming calls for all Services of the Medical Center and, at times, for various personnel associated with Marshall University School of Medicine.
- →Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Assists employees in placing long distance, commercial, and directory assistance calls as requested and completes all calls outside of the United States as required.
- →Initiates 8 party conference calls form the console, as well as, preparing and setting up equipment for larger conference calls.
- →Handles incoming and outgoing calls in rapid succession, while maintaining a positive response for information at the front window and telephonic response.
- →Maintains a pager listing on Intranet, Home Page and VISTA and ensures listings are correct.
- →Activates numerous emergency codes in event of an emergency or disasters.
- →Follows the appropriate protocol for handling homicidal/suicidal callers.
- →May serve as first point of contact for patients entering the Medical Center and resolves patient issues from throughout the Medical Center Daily assists Medical Center staff by releasing the employee's computer should multiple sign-ons occur.
- →Maintains courteous and prompt assistance when directing difficult calls and uses personal judgement to complete these calls.
- →Provides lost and found services for the facility including receiving, safeguarding, storing, and processing items turned in as found and eventual disposition of the property.
- →Assists in fact finding and collection/compilation of data for special projects in the Business Office.
- →Monitors various alarm systems, including Code Red, Code Blue, Rapid Response, Fire, and Telephone alarms.
- →All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service.
