About the Role

The incumbent serves as a Systems Accountant performing multiple and varying assignments under the limited direction of a manager or more experienced professional. The incumbent is an individual contributor and/or member of a team and performs some leadership functions for small projects/programs and/or other work activities.

What You'll Do

  • Applies experience and advanced knowledge applicable to systems accounting, to plan and accomplish assignments.
  • Assignments may require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines.
  • Typical assignments may include: Analyzes financial system modules to detect deficiencies, mitigate data integrity risks, and ensure full disclosure of financial transactions.
  • Identifies gaps in reporting capabilities and designs modern, data-driven reporting solutions to improve visibility into customer financial statuses.
  • Identifies needed changes in reporting requirements, which would provide more meaningful information, and to determine ways and means to make financial accounting practices more effective and efficient for implementation and new releases.
  • Uses the accepted software packages and approved methodologies to document and maintain the user's functional requirements for the financial software capabilities.
  • Finalizes, completes and records this functional documentation in a format suitable to meet the requirements of Financial Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication Number 38 and other standards.
  • Leverages modern business analysis methodologies to gather, document, and maintain user functional requirements for financial system capabilities.
  • Ensures all systems documentation complies with current federal information processing standards and agency architectures.
  • Leads complex business process re-engineering (BPR) initiatives and develops end-to-end financial business scenarios to optimize workflow efficiency.
  • Creates comprehensive system test plans and conducts detailed systems functional testing to validate system integrity prior to deployment.
  • Creates targeted technical training programs to ensure seamless organizational readiness, successful module deployment, and sustainable maintenance of subsequent financial software releases.
  • Responsible for creating financial business scenarios, business-processing re-engineering approach development, training materials, and methodology necessary for the design, implementation and maintenance of assigned modules within the financial system.
  • Reviews and approves the technical work of junior systems accountants.
