About the Role

This Supervisory Supply Management Specialist position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), within Supply Chain Management Services at West Haven, Connecticut campus. This position is full-time at 40 hours a week.

What You'll Do

  • The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Plans and manages all levels of supply chain activities involved in sourcing, procurement, and logistics management; coordinates and collaborates with a variety of stakeholders including: clinicians, professional/administrative peers, suppliers, intermediaries, third party service providers, and customers.
  • Oversees, negotiates, and integrates functions with primary responsibility for linking major business functions and business processes within and across organizations into a cohesive and high performing business model.
  • Identifies specific requirements for money, manpower, material, facilities, and services needed to support the program and correlating those requirements with program plans to assure needed support is provided at right time and place.
  • Exercises knowledge of agency program planning, funding, and management information systems and utilizes broad knowledge and skills of organization functions and activities to provide logistical support and coordinate and evaluate the efforts of functional specialists to identify specific requirements to develop and adjust plans and schedules for the actions needed to meet requirements timely.
  • Plans forecasts and executes budget for healthcare resources and services, supplies, subsistence, durable medical equipment, medical gases, expendable/non-expendable (EX/NX) and capital equipment, inventory management, warehouse operations, transportation, and distribution.
  • Standardizes business processes, establishes performance measures and analyzes the supply chain, developing actions as a result of analysis results, metrics, quality assurance/compliance, operating practices, and reporting within the system and supported catchment area.
  • Exercises SCM responsibility for the coordination and integration of new technology and/or implementation of new supply and equipment requirements.
  • Integrates operations for the acquisition and procurement of complex healthcare resources that involve planning, coordinating, and evaluating logistical and SCM actions required to support complex requirements of a large healthcare system.
  • Analyzes the supply chain, developing actions as a result of analysis results, metrics, quality assurance/compliance, operating practices, and reporting within the health care system.
  • Develops performance measurement/management of all of the aforementioned (including statistical analysis, workload projections, and process management).
  • Analyzes and coordinates information and requirements with the healthcare system, Veterans Services Integrated Network (VISN) and VA Central Office (VACO) in the area of acquisitions and procurement of supply, equipment, and medical readiness.
  • Through subordinate managers, conducts cost-benefit analysis for procurements through the total supply chain.
  • Analyzes supply status and directs the priority of maintenance effort for organizational equipment.
  • When these indicators and reviews reveal improvement opportunities, acts as the catalyst, and ensures these opportunities are realized.
