About the Role

This position is located within the Phoenix Area Indian Health Service, Whiteriver Service Unit, Social Services Department. The incumbent serves as the Director of Social Services and is responsible for the supervision, administration, and overall management of the Social Services Department. Provides leadership for social work personnel, program operations, and staff utilization. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

What You'll Do

  • Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Social Worker Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Responsible for program management duties which includes budget management, development of position descriptions, supervising staff and assigning work for the department.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care services that addresses the overall psychosocial needs of the patient, family, community and Service Unit programs.
  • Provides mental health consultation and training services to staff, various community and tribal groups, agencies such as schools, law enforcement, courts and substance abuse programs, child protection agencies.
  • Ensures staff assist with coordination of patient care through participation and collaboration with community and tribal programs.

  • Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, maintain good standing with creditors, and satisfy all legal financial obligations prior to applying.

Requirements

  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period U.S.
  • Citizenship is required Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 IHS Selectees whose duties and responsibilities require them to work permanently, temporarily, or occasionally in an IHS healthcare facility must comply with the IHS Employee Immunization Policy related to vaccine-preventable diseases, consistent with recommendations for healthcare workers.
  • Vaccine exemption requests may be available, as outlined in the IHS Employee Immunization Policy and facility guidance.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
  • A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.
  • This position works regularly assigned rotation or call back basis to provide continuity of services during evenings, nights, holidays and weekends. 24 hour on-call services are required.

  • Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.

  • Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability.
