What You'll Do

  • Major duties include but not limited to: Supervisory Program Specialist is responsible for the overall supervision of the unit, efficient distribution of workload, accurate evaluation of results, and enhancement of procedures to meet workload demands.
  • Supervise employees ranging from GS-5 to GS-7 Medical engaged in a wide variety of administrative activities involving the daily operation of the Unit.
  • Supervisor makes work assignments, writes position descriptions, and establishes performance standards for the Unit.
  • Prepares and conducts performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions, and will resolve informal complaints or issues whenever possible.
  • Develops policies and operating procedures for all programs under his/her supervision.
  • Responsible for personnel management activities that include ongoing training and development of personnel to ensure employees are kept advised of program changes, patches in VISTA software, program enhancements, and management directives.
  • Identifies and determines training priorities, provides training, administers programs and maintains employee records.
  • Monitors sharing agreements, contract, and other agreements made with non-VA providers.
  • Makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate staff, which may include processing of patient referrals for medical care, determining legal eligibility, authorizing treatments, maintenance of records, and verifying and processing computer-generated data from various sources.
  • Develops internal audit systems for all programs that involve the use of data-based reviews and analyses, systematic reviews, and special studies, to ensure accurate and legitimate uses of resources, and equitable distribution of workload, and a smooth and continuous process flow.
  • Independently researches and follow-up by inquiry, observation, and examination of facts upon complaint or inquiry from physicians, hospitals, veterans, and Congress, enabling him/her to make recommendations and assist with the coordination and expeditious resolution of problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.
  • Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs.
