The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Finance Office, Office of Museum Operations, National Museum of American History (NMAH). NMAH is home to more than 1.8 million objects and more than three shelf-miles of archival collections, preserving and sharing the greatest single collection of American history in the world.
What You'll Do
- →The Supervisory Procurement & Travel Specialist is responsible for managing NMAH's procurement and travel operations, and supervising staff to ensure full compliance with Smithsonian Institution procurement and contracting requirements.
- →In this position, you will: Serve as the Primary Procurement Officer (PPO) for NMAH, overseeing procurement and contracting activities for the museum's largest and most complex acquisitions.
- →Work closely with the SI Office of Contracting (OCon) on complex contracts for review and approval.
- →Review contract actions, provisions, and highly specialized contracts and contracting plans to assess Smithsonian Institution (SI) compliance, strengthen competition, and ensure regulatory adherence.
- →Oversee NMAH's travel program, ensuring compliance with Smithsonian Institution (SI) and federal travel policies and procedures.
- →Supervise museum personnel responsible for purchasing, procurement, travel, and related services by assigning work, setting priorities, managing performance, approving leave, resolving employee issues, coordinating training, and taking disciplinary actions as necessary.
- →Develop and evaluate museum procurement policies and procedures while providing guidance on procurement and travel-related issues.
