About the Role

The VA Sleep Lab Supervisor position will be located at both the Anchorage VA/Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER) Sleep Lab of the VA. Responsible for overseeing the efficiency and day to day operations in the VA Sleep Lab, ICT's, and the day time and night VA Sleep Techs. Duties include orientation and training of new ICTs, Sleep Techs, and providing guidance and technical direction to current ICTs and Sleep Techs. Ensures adequate coverage in their subordinate clinics.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Will have advanced knowledge of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders and the ability to recognize uncommon and/or rare sleep disorders.
  • Must have the ability to summarize and report polysomnographic data in narrative form.
  • Knowledge of event characteristics and the ability to take appropriate action are necessary.
  • Must have the ability to provide briefings and orientation and training to VA staff including physicians, and to manage employee schedules and patient appointment matrices.
  • Functions Supervises the MIT Polysomnography, ICTs, overnight PSG clinics, and HSAT program in conjunction with the Sleep Clinic Respiratory Supervisor.
  • Provides oversight of the CPAP program to assure that it meets with all Joint Commission, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and other regulatory bodies prescribed standards.
  • Oversees staff working at the Sleep Lab to ensure competency in PAP setup and secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during appointments or phone interactions.
  • Explains the procedures to the patient and answers any questions regarding the PAP therapy and appropriately prepares patient for on-going usage of their PAP device.
  • Evaluates and reviews market of PAP Technology equipment to determine if new equipment would provide additional clinical diagnostic abilities and recommends new equipment as needed.
  • Meet with their subordinates routinely to provide education for staff, updates on clinical operations, and offer opportunities to maintain CEC's as required by state and federal regulations.
  • Receives requests and/or instructions for procedures.
  • Interprets requests or instructions from physician or medical officers.
  • Receives assignments that require application of standard and non-standard procedures and seeks advice or the assistance of the Sleep Clinic Respiratory Supervisor.
  • Secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures.
