About the Role
This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Security and Preparedness (OSP), Field Operations Division, VA Police Service. The mission of the VA Police Service is to provide law enforcement, protective services, and investigative services to the VA Community, which includes Veterans, federal employees, affiliates, contractors, visitors, and others who receive services, work, or visit VA (VHA, VBA, & VCA) facilities nationwide.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Supervises a team of police and other law enforcement staff at varying levels of responsibility.
- →Establishes priorities to coordinate, plan, organize and complete work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
- →Monitors and reviews status/progress of work and makes adjustments to ensure the workload is balanced.
- →Revises work schedules to meet changes in workload considering factors such as peak loads, availability of manpower and processing time requirements.
- →Empathizes, engages, and communicates with all individuals encountered to ensure a positive and safe environment.
- →Plans work schedules and sequence of operations daily to assure an even flow and distribution of work and meeting schedules and deadlines.
- →Prepares performance standards and performs staff performance evaluation.
- →Receives and resolves formal and/or complex complaints of employees.
- →Identifies the development and training needs for police staff supervised.
- →Develops, implements and makes revision recommendations to departmental policies and procedures.
- →Makes independent decisions to take/direct/coordinate immediate steps to preserve life and property.
- →Takes disciplinary action as deemed necessary and/or proposes to higher authority specific disciplinary action consistent with the problem and facts.
- →Analyzes, interprets and makes deductions from varying facts/circumstances.
- →Investigates incidents and takes steps to mitigate further risk and resolve situations.

- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Physical Requirements: Much of the work involves on-site work requiring prolonged walking over flat and even surfaces, working in confined spaces, crouching, bending, crawling, standing, and climbing.
- ✓The work requires outside exposure to all temperatures.
- ✓Also requires moderate to arduous physical exertion and possible exposure to personal danger.
