What You'll Do

  • This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Pacific Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Region (POCSR), Deputy Regional Director (DRD), POCSR Field Operations (FO) in Camarillo, CA.
  • At the full performance level (GS-15) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1.
  • The incumbent is responsible and accountable for all technical and administrative functions and the management of activities.
  • This includes participation in the development of programs and policies by providing significant and innovative recommendations for improving existing programs and or methods, dissemination of national policies, maintenance of good public relations, and the making of independent decisions. 2.
  • Provides authoritative technical input regarding the development of policies for implementing the regulations that his/her subordinates use to regulate the oil and gas industry. 3.
  • Manages and directs programmatic activities associated with the review and approval of all drilling, production, completion, workover, and well abandonment operations; field inspection program, site security, Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS), and decommissioning operations. 4.
  • Coordinates initial investigation of accidents, fires, blowouts, and incidents of pollution for potential referral for full investigations by appropriate personnel. 5.
  • Prepares responses to comments on processes which potentially lead to policy and/or regulatory formulations for the agency and that have national impact. 6.
  • Oversees the administration of the provisions of the helicopter contract and assures that the helicopter is efficiently utilized.
  • This is not a bargaining unit position.
  • Salary Information GS-15: $172,476 to $197,200 per annum.
  • First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
  • This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.
