About the Role
This position is located in Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, in the Visitor Services Division.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Manages a busy visitor center and interpretive functions of the park, including training, programming, special events, social media and web-based programming, outreach, and educational and volunteer programming.
- →Supervises employees, including developing performance standards, evaluating performance, recommends promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes while keeping employees informed of management policies and goals.
- →Oversees administrative and budgetary funds for the division, initiates and participates in the processes necessary to obtain resources and assists in park-wide budget formulation.
- →Serves as the park Public Information Officer; establishing relationships with a variety of community organizations, government, partners, and news media.
- →Prepares long-range plans and project statements for park interpretative operations through comprehensive plans, makes recommendations concerning the interpretative of branch priorities while providing for the job safety of all supervised employees.
- →Physical Demands: No unusual physical demands are required in the job, which includes sedentary work in an office environment, frequent meetings, attendance at conferences, planning and negotiation meetings and hiking backcountry areas of the park to check on projects.
- →Because of continual coordination and program/project demands, some individuals may find this a stressful position.
- →Travelling to attend meetings is common.
- →Duties and responsibilities require an eight-hour workday although some longer days for special events/programs may be required.
- →Assignments include extended periods of standing at information desks, hiking in variable weather over uneven and steep terrain, speaking for long periods, lifting objects up to 30 pounds, bending, sitting, and working at a computer workstation.
- →The duties of the position may require physical exertion, especially during special events in the hot/humid summer environment, and the cold/damp winter environment.
- →Working Conditions: Most work is performed in an office setting and meeting room space which is climate controlled year-round.
- →Interpretive programs, tours, special events, meetings and site visits are performed indoors and outdoors at the parks, and at various partner or external sites.
- →The work is performed for 40 hours per week with variable shifts.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship required.
- ✓Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- ✓Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- ✓Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service); with few exceptions as outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
- ✓Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal civilian employees applying for reinstatement who have had a break in service of less than one year, as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments.
- ✓Time-in-grade does not apply to new excepted service appointments and must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- ✓You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
- ✓You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists.
- ✓Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- ✓Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- ✓You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- ✓A uniform allowance will be provided.
- ✓You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. *Additional Requirements located under qualifications* To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
- ✓Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
