This position is located in the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Area 2 - Christiansburg, Virginia office. The incumbent serves as the Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations, providing supervision, guidance, and assistance to all field offices and/or designated managerial units in Virginia. The incumbent is responsible for managing field operations, associated programs, and budget formulation.
What You'll Do
- →Develops plans, prepares, schedules, and sets priorities for work to be accomplished.
- →Provides leadership and guidance to the resource teams in working with local governing bodies of soil and water conservation districts.
- →Facilitates, with discipline specialists, the periodic quality review of work performed by employees in the assigned area and reviews work reports to determine how work is progressing and for adherence to technical standards policies/procedures.
- →Develops and manages the compliance programs.
- →Develops programs, plans, and procedures for soil erosion problem identification, needs assessment, and technology selection for soil erosion problems.
- →Provides supervision to a wide variety of technical and administrative staff.
- →Works with representatives of other agencies in the coordination of departmental and other agricultural programs within the objectives of an overall soil and water conservation program for the assigned area.
Requirements

- ✓Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- ✓Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
