About the Role

This Supervisory Mobility Transportation Specialist position serves within the Health Administration service of the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) at Aurora, CO. The primary purpose of this position is to manage all Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) and Beneficiary Travel (BT) program activities, including; patient transport, Special Mode Travel (SMT), and mileage reimbursement claims. This position supervises/ensures the VTS and BT process comply with Regulatory guidance.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include but are not limited to: Manages the technical and financial aspects of mileage reimbursement claims.
  • Manages transportation programs (Veterans Transportation Program and Veterans Transportation Service) to provide safe and reliable transportation to veterans who require assistance traveling to and from VA health care facilities.
  • Establishes and/or implements policies, regulatory changes, mandates and action items.
  • Manages transportation contracts to include common carrier, special mode, ambulance and air ambulance.
  • Coordinates program development for the department.
  • Oversees and monitors the safety of transportation equipment, policies and practices.
  • Manages and oversees the transportation of special needs passengers including; veterans, active-duty service members, caregivers, disabled, frail, and elderly who may be receiving life dependent treatments such as dialysis, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or other sensitive treatment.
  • Oversees the scheduling of routine, urgent, and emergent transportation for individuals.
  • Prepares oral and written reports and presentations (graphs, charts, etc.) in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
  • Coordinates with state and local transportation networks/services to effectively provide transportation services.
  • Observes and evaluates the performance of employees.
  • Interprets and communicates policy to subordinate employees.
  • Formulates and oversees resource allocation duties for the department.
  • Provides Fund Control Point management and oversight.
