About the Role

The Supervisory MSA will provide clerical and administrative support for the Primary Care Service, which is part of the Ralph H Johnson VA Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. They monitor the status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities and will oversee the admin functions for Primary Care and Specialty Care at the Myrtle Beach Clinic. Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.

What You'll Do

  • Supervisor provides direct assistance and supervision to the admin staff of the of the Myrtle Beach CBOC in Myrtle Beach, SC.
  • The supervisor is responsible for overseeing approximately (10) GS-06 Medical Support Assistants (MSAs) and (1) GS-07 Lead MSA.
  • The responsibilities of this position include providing program oversight, while directly managing and capturing the program's daily, monthly, and quarterly statistical data.
  • The supervisory monitors the status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities and will oversee the admin functions for Primary Care and Specialty Care at the Myrtle Beach Clinic.
  • Incumbent gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  • This position requires an understanding of VHA Directives for: VHA Outpatient Scheduling Processes and Procedures, Consult Processes and Procedures, Outpatient Clinic Practice Management Process for managing patients when patient demand exceeds current clinic capacity, Priority Scheduling for Outpatient Medical Services and inpatient hospital care for service-connected Veterans.
  • Knowledge of VA regulations, Systems Redesign Principles, local Medical Center Memoranda/policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as the direct line supervisor for all Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) staff to include other Program Support Staff and is a foundational role within the Primary Care Service.
  • Other assigned duties but are not limited to: Providing program oversight, while directly managing and capturing the program's daily, monthly, and quarterly statistical data in order to track/report all services provided by the Primary Care Service.
  • Resolve complex problems to ensure patient services are met.
  • Evaluate new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendations for improved operations.
  • Identify educational or training needs.
  • Make final decisions on selections.
