About the Role

The Supervisory Assistant Chief, Health Administration Service, is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Services Network , at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Bronx, New York.

What You'll Do

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include : Develops and maintains a comprehensive health patient administration program.
  • Conducts utilization studies, analyses and evaluations including the facility workload report provided to executive staff monthly.
  • Collates and maintains all necessary information from operations, facility metrics relating to bed demands, availability of employees.
  • Assigns, prioritizes and adjusts workload based on operational demands and staffing needs, facilitates seasonal fluctuations, seasonal changes in procedures and policies affecting planned bed utilization.
  • Provides clear direction, sets expectations, and ensures accountability among staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and supports scheduling employees development through coaching and feedback.
  • Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives.
  • Has full management responsibility for enrollment, eligibility, and registration functions, administrative and technical support in direct patient care areas, emergency and after-hours administrative operations, decedent affairs, telephone operations, veteran transportation, beneficiary travel and data validation to ensure timely, accurate workload reporting.
  • Supervises, advises, and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.
  • Develops both long and short-range plans for health administration service by coordinating the medical and scheduling administrative needs of the service.
  • Has frequent contacts with representatives of Service Organizations, congressional offices, and other state, federal and community agencies.
  • Represents the Medical Center through presentations at public functions, participation in community programs affecting veterans, and attendance at special meetings or educational presentations involving respective areas of responsibility.
  • Establishes minimum standards for quality and productivity.
  • Directs program implementation.
